Introduction:
This subject is itself such a vast field so, I will put before your eyes few topics in this excerpt.
I see this universe is itself an ocean of miracles. That day! When Adam P.B.U.H puts his first step on earth, he must have admired the miracle work of God (Allah Baritalla) like, oceans, vast lands, mountains, sky, animal kingdoms, stars, sun, moon, vegetables, fruits, breeze, weather, rains, thunder, clouds, trees, birds, fishes etc...But above all, he must have praised Allah's most self-expounding miraculous creation on earth, an Adam (himself) and whose introduction to this world as a Human. Being a servant of Allah he knew that this creation (human beings) of Allah would do such miraculous works, if we explore the journey of Adam till present human race, this miraculous creation of God has totally changed the face of the world. And we all are witness to this fact that human has brought forward uncountable miraculous developments which is itself a miracle of God.
Allah Bari Talla Says in Holy Quran 29:20 "Say: "Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation; so will Allah produce a later creation: For Allah has power over all things."
One of the Great thinker of 18th century in his book 'On Heroes, Hero-worship, and the Heroic in History', Mr. Thomas Carlyle beautifully said "...This world, after all our science and sciences, is still a miracle; wonderful, inscrutable, magical and more, to whosoever will think of it".
What is a miracle?
A miracle is an impossibility, something beyond human endeavor, human effort. For example, one of us falls in front of our eyes and he become unconscious and he expires. A doctor is called up and a doctor certifies that the person is dead. Another doctor is brought forward to give his opinion and he also certifies that a man is dead, take the body away prepares for burial. But there comes along a man of God, who sees this person's dead body and he says, he commands 'kun b iznillah' wake up, get up in the name of Allah and a person gets up alive and well. We say its a miracle, because it was impossibility certifies by two doctors and yet the person is come back to life. so it is a miracle but suppose a man was dead for three days, put in a moucheri a mog, and after three days somebody comes along, the man is gone as hard as rock and he shouts at the corps 'kun b iznillah' arise in the name of Allah (God) and the man comes back from the dead, from the moucheri, from the mog, we say that is a greater miracle because it is a greater impossibility. But after the person is dead and buried the bones are rotten in the grave and somebody cries 'kun b iznillah' and the person gets out of the grave alive, breathing, well.., we say that is still a greater miracle, so greater the impossibility the greater the miracle. I hope this definition is simple enough for everybody to grasp.
You may know, in that sense our Holy Quran is a miracle of eloquence! ?In the first instance, you see nations before Islam were sent Prophets and mankind have the tendency to demand proof by super natural acts. Prophet Moses, he was given a type of miracle, which was akin to magic. He was among the magicians in Egypt, so he had to contend with these magicians and Allah gave him a miracle to confound these magicians. Pharaoh thinking that Moses was another magician. He brought forward his own magicians to play the part and the Egyptian magicians had little little magic sticks and they threw them in the ground and all these little sticks became little little snakes/serpents. Allah had already given Moses an experience with his rod on the mound. Now, he knew what he was to do. So, he threw his rod and a rod turn in to a serpent and this serpent swallowed up all the little snakes of these Egyptians and Moses picked up this serpent and it turned back once into a rod. And the Egyptian magicians they realized that this is no magic, this is not hypnotism, this is not mesmerism. Because to hypnotize a person, you cast a spell you make the person to see what is really not there, its a illusion he created, the sticks you can make it appears like snakes by casting a spell. But here all the little sticks are vanished to de-mesmerize. It would have been to the snakes appears as sticks no, no, no, but these sticks are vanished in to the serpent and a serpent was a rod, was thicker than what it was before. So a greater miracle and the Egyptian magicians they confess that this is no magic, this is something beyond, it was a miracle, the real miracle not magic. So Allah gives miracle according to the mentality and the needs of the people. For example people with magical minds they were confounded with superior magic, real magic!!
Jesus when he appears on the scene, he comes among a people who were steep in Greek medicine. They were performing wonders in medicine. So, Allah gives him healing powers, healing those born blinds (a person who goes blind by shock or by damage/infection is quite a different thing, from the one who was born blind) and Allah gave him those powers to heal born blinds and the lepers and he gave life back to the dead type of miracle to convince the people.
Holy Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H.
Prophet Muhammad SAW comes among a people, who were boasting about their language. The language was the boast! Their eloquence, their poetry. They said we are an eloquent people, we are The Arabs and the rest of the world is dumb as compare to us. They boasted as, You dumb! How many words you have for horse? if anybody say, half a dozen then they said we give you hundreds in our language. Similarly, How many words you have for a sword? Anybody would say half a dozen they said you see in my language I can give hundred. So we are an eloquent people and you all are dumb. So among such a people, when Prophet Muhammad SAW comes along the Greatest Miracle that he gave was the Holly Quran that the language of the Quran in the first instant was beating the people and they (people with sense) realized that this is not a poetry, this is not prose, this is something beyond our understanding. And people accepted the faith.
Let me tell you, what non-muslims tell you about the Holly Quran A.J.R.Berry, an Englishman, who translated the Holy Quran in to English. In his preface, he says: "whenever I hear the Holy Quran chanted, it is as though I am listening to music. Underneath the flowing melody is sounding all the time, the insistent beat of a drum, it is like the beating of my heart, you can't help vibrating on the wave length of the Holy Quran".
Reverend Bosworth Smith in his book 'Muhammad and Muhammadanism' in which he says about our Prophet Muhammad SAW and a Holly Quran as "Illiterate himself, scarcely able to read or write. He was yet the author of the book (which we muslim do not agree) which is a poem, a code of laws, a book of common prayers and a Bible all in one and his reverence to this day by a six of a whole human race as a miracle, Miracle of purity of style, of wisdom and of truth. It is a one miracle claim by Muhammad, his standing miracle and a miracle indeed it is".
In Holy Quran, 29: 49-51 it says "Yet they say: "Why Are not signs sent down To him from his Lord?" Say: "The Signs are indeed With Allah: and I am Indeed a clear Warner." And is it not enough For them that We have sent down to thee The Book which is rehearsed To them? Verily, in it Is Mercy and a Reminder To those who believe."
In the end, I thank you for your patient reading.
Best regards
Emad
